The growth of the private enterprises in the last 10 years have been impressive in terms of quantity. The country is very close to the official target of 500,000 enterprises by the end of 2010. Private enterprises have outperformed SOEs and foreign-invested enterprises in many areas, e.g. job creation, growth rate of equity, assets, net revenue and many other sectors. However, the quality of development of the private sector remains to be a problem. Private sector enterprises still need to do a lot to improve its financial performance ratio, image in the field of corporate social responsibility, environment protection, labor standard, in the fight against climate change…
Under the UNDP Project in support of the CIEM and the Taskforce on Implementation of the Enterprise Law, Economica Vietnam conducted a study which probes into the quality of private sector enterprises in Vietnam. The report was released to the public in a workshop co-organized by the Taskforce, CIEM and UNDP in December 2009.
